Frequently asked questions
Quick answers to some of your most common questions about our services.
How long is a restoration?
Every restoration is hands-on and detailed—I do all the work myself, from cleaning and repairing to painting and reassembling. If a part can’t be saved, I’ll carefully craft a replacement from scratch to match the original. Restorations usually take around three to four weeks, depending on the job. Have a deadline? Let me know, and I’ll do my best to work with you. I don’t do quick patch-ups or shortcuts—every stove is restored properly, with care and precision, so it will last for years to come.
Why can’t I get through on the phone?
It’s just me here, and most days I’m either on noisy work or in the middle of another job. Email is preferred—it’s easier while I’m working, and I’ll usually ask for photos of your stove or part anyway. If you do call, leave a message and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.
will all parts fit my metters?
No. Metters made many different models over the decades, and parts were never standardised. An oven from a Metters 2 won’t fit a Metters Warren, just as an oven from a Metters 6 won’t fit a Metters 1.
It gets trickier: stoves from different foundries—even of the same model—often had different patterns and sizes. Even stoves from the same model, built years apart, could have changes to flu boxes and other parts.
If you’re unsure of your stove model when ordering, just send a photo with your enquiry—I’ll be happy to help identify it.

can i just buy one brick and not a kit?
Nope! Firebricks are designed to take the wear and tear so the cast parts of your stove don’t. If one of your firebricks looks like it’s needing replacement, it’s very likely they all do. Over time, they’ll need replacing to keep your stove working safely.
We put together firebrick kits for a few stoves, with clear instructions and diagrams to make it easy. Don’t worry—it’s not a tricky job, and most handy folks can do it themselves without any fuss.

do you buy old wood stoves?
Yes, we do buy stoves—depending on their condition. If your stove is in good shape or a strong candidate for restoration, ill make you a fair offer.
For stoves that are in poor condition and not suitable for resale or restoration, we also offer a safe and convenient removal service for a small fee—so you don’t have to worry about disposal.
